Second Life and Lunch: Tour of The Particle Laboratory

Monday, May 11, 2009
1:00 p.m. - 1:50 p.m.
KCELT, Room 2097 in the new Academic Addition or join us virtually

If you've been to one of our meetings over the past month, you've learned a thing or two about how to make the things you build do things like open a Web page or give and item to an avatar by adding a script to an object. I like to describe scripts as "where the magic really happens" in Second Life.

At our next Second Life and Lunch we're going to kick things up a notch. We will be visiting a very cool place called The Particle Laboratory. Much like the Ivory Tower of Primitives, The Particle Laboratory is set up with self-paced tutorials where you can learn...in this case...all about particles! Particles are created by a script placed inside an object that can make fireworks or smoke or a pulsing glow around the object like a light or many other effects. We'll walk through the beginning of the tutorials, I'll show you the lay of the land (including the sandbox area where you can try creating some particle effects yourself) and then everyone can explore this build for themselves.

If you're Kirkwood faculty or staff, don't forget to sign up for this session. You can find the instructions here on our group wiki.

I hope to see you there!

Second Life and Lunch : Scripting - Give a Folder of Items

Monday, May 4, 2009
1:00 p.m. - 1:50 p.m.
KCELT, Room 2097 in the new Academic Addition or Join us Virtually

At our next Second Life and Lunch you'll learn how to Set Up an Item to Give a Folder of Items When Touched. This is a very useful and versatile script that can give out any combination of objects, landmarks and notecards.

Don't worry if you didn't make it any of the building and scripting sessions yet. Each of these sessions stands on it's own and you can jump in at any time.

If you're Kirkwood faculty or staff, don't forget to sign up for this session. You can find the instructions here on our group wiki.

I hope to see you there!
