Second Life Location Suggestions?

Second Life and Lunch
Monday, February 2, 2009
1-1:50 p.m. Central time (11-11:50 p.m. SLT)
KCELT 153 Computer Classroom or join us virtually

At next Monday’s meeting we will be practicing Getting Around and Camera Controls to prepare for some tours we have coming up this spring. This will allow more users to experience the tours by navigating the spaces with their avatar. Instead of staying on the Kirkwood island, we will be visiting another place in-world.

My question to you then is where would you like to visit?

Join the wall discussion on our Facebook Group page, or add a comment to this blog. Blog comments will be added to the Facebook discussion and the result will be posted here before the meeting.

Heads Up : Second Life KCELT Session

MLK Day is on Monday, so we will not have a Second Life and Lunch meeting next week.

I would like to give you a heads up about a Second Life class in KCELT next Tuesday though. It’s called “Blending Second Life With Real-World Courses” by Jed Peterson. If you have been at all curious about how the virtual world of Second Life can be incorporated into various teaching and learning formats, including face-to-face, online and blended courses, I encourage you to attend.

Jed has incorporated a virtual tour of the Sistine Chapel into his classroom teaching. He discussed this at a presentation he gave with Alan Peterka at last year’s League for Innovation Conference on Information Technology. It was an eye-opening experience for many educators in the room.

You can catch this session on Tuesday, January 20, 11-11:50am.
If you can still get into this session it is not to be missed.

No Meeting Next Week

Martin Luther King Jr. Day is next Monday and we will be participating in Diversity Day activities at Kirkwood, so there will be no meeting next week.

We'll meet the following Monday, January 26 when we will answer questions about the new social media tools on the Web and building tools in the sandbox.

I hope to see you there!

New Meeting Time for Spring

No longer will you have to wonder when we have a meeting. This semester it will be the same day and the same time every week.

We’ll meet in KCELT computer room 153 on main campus every Monday, 1-1:50pm. If you’re located off campus or if you’re at home that day, remember you can join us virtually. Take your avatar to the sandbox on Kirkwood Island. We’ll start here for all meetings even if we’ll be visiting another location. You’ll find an information sign at the entrance to the sandbox with information about the next meeting.

I hope to see you next week on Monday, 1-1:50pm when we'll answer your questions about the new Web 2.0 Tools and building. I hope to see you there!

New Ways to Connect With Group Members

SLunch Meeting on Monday

Our first Second Life and Lunch meeting (SLunch) of the Spring semester is Monday, January 5, 1-1:50pm. This will be the regular day and time for all our Spring meetings.

We'll gather in KCELT computer room 153, but you don't have to be on main campus to attend the meeting. Join us virtually on the Kirkwood island in Second Life. Just walk, run, or fly to the sandbox area to learn about the new tools we're introducing this semester to connect with members of the group and share your educational discoveries in the virtual world of Second Life.

Reminder to faculty: don't forget to sign up for SLunch on the KCELT Web site whether you join us in KCELT or virtually from your office computer. If you won't be able to make it, please remember to cancel too.

You don't have to be a member of the Kirkwood Second Life Group to attend the meeting. Bring your lunch, bring a friend and don't forget your sign-in information and password if you have an avatar.

I hope to see you there!
